How to Export Thunderbird Emails to EML Files?

Mozilla Thunderbird is a very popular open source email client. It is a cross platform email client, which is generally used by Windows, Linux and Mac users and allows you to use multiple email accounts by using IMAP and POP3 servers. Thunderbird by default stores all emails in MBOX file format inside the Thunderbird profile.

Export Thunderbird To EML By Using The Save As Option

  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. Select the mailbox folder
  3. Select the emails which you want to convert. CTRL+A to select all
  4. Now right click on the selected mail and click on the save as from the list
  5. Select folder and save the selected emails as EML

Export To EML By Using The Save Selected Message Option

  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. Select the mailbox folder
  3. Select the required emails, and CTRL+A to select all
  4. Now right click on the selected mail and click on the Save Selected Messages and choose EML Format.
  5. Select folder and save

Note: By using the Save Selected Message you can export thunderbird emails to HTML, PDF, CSV formats.


Convert Thunderbird To EML By Using ImportExporttools Add-On

Mozilla Thunderbird gives a free ImportExporttools Add-On by using which you can save all messages into EML file format at once.

  1. Download and install ImportExporttools Add-On
  2. Open Thunderbird application
  3. Select Mailbox folder and Right click
  4. Select ImportExportTools and click on the Export all Messages in the folder option
  5. Select EML format
  6. Select folder and save

In this add-on there is no option to convert Thunderbird messages to Outlook pst format. If you want to convert thunderbird to Outlook, then you can use MBOX to PST converter tool.
