How to convert NSF files into PST files?

The NSF (Notes Storage Facility) is a database file used by Lotus Notes (IBM) and Domino to store emails, contacts, appointments and etc. in binary form.

Why do we need to convert NSF to PST?

  1. When you want to transfer Lotus Notes data to Outlook
  2. When you want to access NSF file to Outlook

Convert NSF into Outlook - Manual Method

The manual method is performed in two stages

  1. Export Lotus Notes NSF files into an intermediate CSV file
  2. Import CSV file into MS Outlook

Note: Please keep a backup before implementing these methods.

Stage 1:

  1. Launch IBM Lotus Notes
  2. Click on the File > Open > Lotus Notes Application
  3. In the Open Application window, select required NSF file and click Open
  4. Click on the File menu and click on the Export
  5. Set the location and file name
  6. From the file type list, select the Comma Separated Value
  7. Select required options from CSV Export dialogue box and click on the OK button
  8. The exported data gets saved in a CSV file

Stage 2:

  1. Open MS Outlook
  2. Click on the File menu and select Open & Export
  3. Click on the Import and Export option
  4. Choose Import from another program or file from the list and click on the Next button
  5. Select Comma Separated Values as a file type and click on the Next button
  6. Click on the browse button and select exported CSV file path, which you created earlier and click on next button
  7. Select outlook folder where you want to save data and click on the next button
  8. Select the checkbox and click on the Finish button

Note: This technique is useful in certain circumstances. But, this strategy is tedious and now and sometimes it fails to migrate entire data. If it is not handled correctly, might cause corruption in the NSF file.

You can also use NSF to PST converter tool to convert Lotus Notes NSF files into MS Outlook or Exchange server directly. You can also migrate specific data using filters.
